There are thousands of cocktail websites. Most tell you how to make a drink. Some tell you whether they think it’s good. That’s not what this site is about. This is a journey.

For years I’ve been fascinated by tiki — the drinks, the history, the craftsmanship, the rum, the music, the bars, and the culture around them. It has turned from an interest into a job: my co-authors and I are writing research on what we can learn about entrepreneurship from the history and community of tiki.

The best way to understand tiki wasn’t to read about it — it was to make every drink myself. So my wife, Stasi, and I are working through Martin and Rebecca Cate’s Smuggler’s Cove, one cocktail at a time. Each entry has my tasting notes, Stasi’s perspective, our ratings, and honest thoughts. Out of respect for the Cates, you'll need to buy the book to get the ratios.
